Biker Folks:
On my second trip to Idaho Falls today, our Avis car slowly caught
up to a very strange sight on the Interstate. There were four
Harleys headed north, all with single riders who were dressed in
non-standard (not black leather) jackets, two with scarves over
their faces, helmets, and traveling bags strapped on the back of the
bikes. Certainly a strange sight on the road when it's in the
mid-90s, and local natives are riding in t-shirts and no helmets.
As we passed the first (last
in line) Harley I looked at the license plate expecting to see
something like MARS = but it said VIC. Puzzling - and then the next
bike also said VIC as did the third. Finally we passed the first
(lead) bike and it also said VIC - but had a sign that said
AUSTRALIA - just so the dummies could figure out where they were
from. I had given all the riders a thumbs-up as we passed and the
lead rider gave me a big wave back.
Not too much later, all the
bikes passed us and everybody was waving back and forth - the least
we could do to welcome these strangely-dressed aliens riding our
roads. We passed them again, and I watched out the back window as
they turned off at the right exit in Idaho Falls, with the JACKSON
sign.
Obviously on their way to
Sturgis via Jackson and Yellowstone and - if they planned it right -
over the Beartooth pass in Montana. What a hell of a way to see our
country!!!
All four had shipped their
bikes over for their little walkabout here in the states. Lucky!!!
Victoria is the small Australian state in the south with Melbourne
as the major city.
Any way - thought someone
might be interested in my alien sighting today.
Almost as much fun as being
abducted by a UFO - but I can't talk about that!
